ITV has recently acquired a Norwegian production company and has announced that they will intend to add a pay to view service to the already existing free service.
Currently ITV Player makes money by utilizing a heavy yet no too unpleasant ad system. ITV’s plan so far is to launch the additional service around autumn 2012 and although there is no pricing as yet it is thought that the prices will be around 50p for a single episode and £4 for a box set. This all sounds pretty reasonable, although most UK TV series are only around 6 episodes anyway, so perhaps a discount for buying in bulk will be put in to use.
The roll out will go to PC’s first and then to internet connected TV’s and other connected platforms (Sony & Microsoft we’re looking at you) in the months following the initial launch.
